Teddy Bear Jump Rope

Use this rhyme and the actions to make an exciting skipping game!

Time: 10-30 minutes
Age: 6 and up
Level: Medium

Materials:

A skipping rope

The game:

Two people spin the skipping rope, or tie one end to a pole or fence so that one person can hold the other end and spin the skipping rope.

Players gather around and take it in turns entering the rope and doing the actions that match the teddy bear rhyme while the robe turns over their head, while the rest of the players watch on and chant the rhyme.

At the end of the rhyme, the player jumps out and the next player runs and jumps into the skipping rope to start the rhyme again.

A skipper is out if they miss an action, or miss a jump over the rope.

The teddy bear rhyme goes like this, with the actions in brackets:

Teddy bear, teddy bear turn around
(skipper turns around)

Teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground

(skipper touches the ground)

Teddy bear, teddy bear tie your shoe

(skipper touches their shoe)

Teddy bear, teddy bear that will do!

(Skipper keeps skipping)

Teddy bear, teddy bear climb the stairs

(skipper hops from one foot to the other)

Teddy bear, teddy bear say your prayers

(skipper puts hands together)

Teddy bear, teddy bear turn off the lights

(skipper turns off imaginary light)

Teddy bear, teddy bear say good night

(skipper places both hands together on side of the face, then runs out of the skipping rope)
