Make a Bush Shelter
My family and I love to go on nature walks when we have spare time. Recently my boys found a perfect area and decided to build this bush shelter.
This is a fun activity to get the kids out of the house and enjoy the great outdoors.
Ages: 5-10, 10-12
Indoor or Outdoor::Outdoor
Equipment/Resources: Bush or forest area
Cost Free
Instructions:
1) Go for a bush walk and find a flat area of ground that has some fallen trees or branches. This will make it easier as these can act like "walls" for your cubby.
Trees make great walls for the shelter
2) We came across a large log and a tree nearby which had a forked branch. This is what we used to balance to the main roof canopy on.
Gather large sticks to make the roof support
3) Walk around a collect some large branches and sticks. You will need quite a lot of these to form your roof.
4) Place the branches across the log and tree fork. this will be the main support for the top of your cubby.
5) Collect some smaller pieces of bark, sticks and leaves and pile it all up on top of the supporting branches. This is to thicken out the roof and provide a bit of camouflage.
Additions:
You could also pack a drink and some snacks and enjoy them in your bush cubby.
Enjoy a relaxing break in your newly built shelter
