Spring is a joyous time of year as it paves the way for warmer weather and abundant sunshine. You can take advantage of the season by planning fun things to do that include kids art activities and small garden ideas. In addition to spending quality time together, you’ll be able to challenge their creativity with the following tips.

1. Go on a Picnic

A great way to ring in the spring season is with a picnic. The first glorious day Mother Nature provides you with, pack a picnic lunch and head for the outdoors. Include your children in putting together a basket full of treats. You can make nutritious kabobs by spearing some of your favourite fruits and vegetables on wooden skewers such as carrots, melons, apples, berries and broccoli. Serve with a fruited yogurt or vegetable dip. You can also pack sandwiches such as peanut butter and jelly. Other essentials for your family spring picnic include drinks and blankets. After your meal, plan a hike where you can point out various flowers, plants and trees in bloom. Your children will get a full day of exercise and fresh air and learn about nature. You can also prepare a scavenger hunt where your children can find items along your outdoor excursion.

2. Create an Art Project

If the weather is inclement, you can break out the crayons and markers and get your child’s creative juices flowing. Creating an art project whether it’s moulding a piece of clay, painting a picture or making paper Mache flowers is an excellent way to stimulate your child’s brain. On a sunny day, you can head outdoors with some sidewalk chalk. With the drive and walkways as their canvas, they can create their own designs.

3. Plant a Garden

Now that the warmer months are just around the corner, it’s about time to bring you little ones out to enjoy spring cleaning in the garden. With so much attention on ecological-friendly living, it’s important for children to take an active role in helping to save the planet. They can do their part to help the environment by gardening in Sydney. You can start with planting a vegetable garden. Some easy things you may want to begin with include cabbage, garlic, kale, broad beans, mustard greens, lettuce, peas, carrots and radishes. You can also extend their green thumb into growing their favourite flowers. Encourage them to water, fertilize, weed and pick the vegetation and plant life once it’s ready. Now that the warmer months are just around the corner, it’s time to bring you little ones out to enjoy spring cleaning under the warm sun.

4. Fly a Kite

The strong winds of spring make it the ideal time of year to get outside and “go fly a kite.” You can search the Internet for tips on how to make your own flying vessel. You can also purchase an inexpensive kite from the market. Choosing a day with a gusty breeze, head outdoors with your children where you can send it sailing into the air. This is also a great time to explain the science behind the miracle of watching something soar into the sky with a piece of string and some adornments. Other projects on a windy day include watching a pin wheel spin or blowing bubbles.

5. Design a Bird Feeder

In addition to house and garden activities, bird watching can also be an educational and fun spring activity for your children. Birds typically migrate to a warmer climate during the winter season. As the seasons turns into spring you can welcome them back with your own backyard bird feeder. In addition to constructing your own feeder, you can purchase a bird house from your local retail store. You can teach your child about the various fruits, seeds and nuts that will attract different species of birds. You can take a photo of the birds snacking away and look them up later online.

Do you have any great activity ideas to add to the list? Feel free to do so, and make a family fun idea jar to play with you kids.
